Freedom Volunteer
Fire Department

The Freedom Volunteer Fire Department is a small rural fire department providing protection to the towns of Freedom and Knox and mutual aid to the surrounding community. Anyone who is interested in neighbors helping neighbors is welcome to join the Freedom Volunteer Fire Department. Meetings for training and equipment maintenance take place every Monday night at 6:30 PM at the Freedom Fire House.

Burn Permits to burn brush, grass, building debris, or for campfires, please call the Fire Chief.  Or obtain one online through the Maine Open Burn Permit site.

Please note, although permits can be requested

24 hours a day online,

the default setting for allowable burn times is

 after 5:00pm and before 9:00am.
